ALS Experiment Safety Sheet

An ALS Experiment Safety Sheet (ESS), detailing all the equipment and materials intended for use in an experiment at the ALS, is required

  • for all users who have not already submitted safety and experiment information via the general sciences and protein crystallography proposal and request for beam time forms

  • if there any changes to an experiment (materials, setup, etc.) after an ESS has been submitted

An ESS must be submitted at least one month before the experiment is scheduled to start. This information will allow the ALS to determine what special technical services and/or safety training are required for each experiment. Changes to an existing experiment ESS must be made by contacting an Experiment Setup Coordinator (ext. 5527).

To complete and submit the ESS on the Web, go to ALS User Services Online Forms. You will need the experiment proposal number and the number of the beamline where the experiment is to be performed to complete the form. The form also provides extensive technical and safety information for experimenters through links to ALS User Advisories and the Berkeley Lab Health and Safety Manual (Pub 3000).
