Required Safety TrainingAll users are required to take safety training at the ALS User Services Office (located on the second floor in Building 6) before they may begin work at the ALS. The policies detailed in the training literature and video are designed to provide a safe work environment, protect the general public and the environment from harm, and protect property from damage and loss. The ALS User Services Office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, and from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Safety training and new user registration and are done on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon, and from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. only; users arriving outside these hours should consult After-Hours Access to the ALS for information about temporary access to the facility. The following training, computer protection, and safety forms must be completed before an ID Proximity Access Card, required for access to the ALS experiment floor and storage areas, is issued: Online training courses for specific hazards and/or equipment are available for ALS users and guests. An LDAP password or LBNL email address and employee ID number are required to log in to the courses. During the experiment review process, the ALS Administration reviews all aspects of the proposed experiment (i.e., materials, equipment, set-up, etc.) detailed in the General Sciences Proposal and Request for Beamtime Form (submitted by general users) or the Experiment Safety Sheet (ESS) (submitted by PRT members) to determine whether additional safety precautions and/or training are required. It is the responsibility of the experiment spokesperson to ensure that all members of the team receive the proper safety training before an experiment begins.
