Soft and Hard X-Ray Tomography at the ALS

X-ray tomography is one of the best methods for understanding the 3-dimensional structure of objects. Synchrotron light sources have enabled many new techniques to extend x-ray tomographic methods to the micron and nanometer length scales with unprecedented spectral sensitivity. At the ALS, hard x-ray tomography is available on Beamline 8.3.2, soft x-ray tomography is available on beamline 6.2.1 and the new soft x-ray tomography beamline 2.2.2. is under construction. This workshop explores the current state of the art in x-ray tomography at the ALS and other synchrotrons. Another goal is the unification of different scientific disciplines which exploit tomographic methods in their research with a view to understanding common hardware and software needs and required future developments such as new detectors and sources. This workshop will

  • Update current status of ALS tomography beamlines.

  • The international field will be reviewed to see where the where the ALS stands in the international scene

  • Current users will describe what they are doing and what they would like to do.

  • Technical and funding options will be discussed and a way forward planned.
