Ultrafast X-Ray Science at the ALS

The capability to study ultrafast processes on a sub-nanosecond to femtosecond time scale with X-rays is an scientifically exciting and technologically challenging field with applications in numerous research areas including molecular dynamics, atomic and electronic phase transitions in solids, AMO physics, and magnetization dynamics.  This workshop intends to give an overview of the latest research in ultrafast science currently being pursued at the ALS (and at other facilities) and to discuss possible future directions in ultrafast science at the ALS.  The workshop will include brief descriptions of the development of sources and detection schemes at the ALS for ultrafast science such as the new ultrafast x-ray beamlines, and a proposed scheme for a high-flux source based on bunch rotation.  The majority of the workshop will focus on present and future scientific applications in the fields of physics, chemistry, materials science, and biology.
