Time-resolved X-ray absorption spectroscopy of charge transfer processes in solution

In this talk I will describe our experimental results of performing time-resolved X-ray absorption spectroscopy at the Ru L-edge on transition metal complexes used for photochemical energy conversion. I will focus on the example of a widely used Ru(II) solar cell dye and show the ability of X-ray absorption spectroscopy to describe the role of metal -ligand interactions in the photo-excited complex. The talk will emphasize the importance of simulating core-level spectra of Ru 2p transitions to interpret the experimental results. Finally, I will report on our current experimental efforts on related molecules using ultrafast IR spectroscopy.
