ENDSTATION INFORMATION

Endstation name

Macromolecular crystallography

Spot size at sample 10-100 µm (collimated)

Detector

3 x 3 CCD array (ADSC Q315r)

Sample format Single crystals of biological molecules, all sample pin types and lengths supported

Sample preparation

Support labs available

Sample environment

100-300 K

Scientific applications

Macromolecular crystallography, multiple-wavelength anomalous diffraction (MAD)

Sample handling automation "Cool Hand Luke" robot accepts all major pin types (Hampton, Yale, SPINE, etc.) and lengths (10-24 mm) and supports "delayed data collection mode" where data collection runs are deferred to the end of the shift. This robot does not work directly with cassettes because hand-mounting of samples in the mini-hutch is faster than any robot.

ENDSTATION INFORMATION

Endstation name

Tray Goniometer

Spot size at sample 50 µm default

Detector

3 x 3 CCD array (ADSC Q315r)

Characteristics Optional unit may be installed in hutch upon advance request.
Sample format SBS compliant crystallization trays oriented 90 degrees to gravity. Trays that limit the amount of plastic in the beam to roughly the size of the crystals are highly recommended.

Sample preparation

Advance notice required. It takes 1 hour of day shift to install the tray goniometer and ~30 minutes to return to cryo-PX.

Sample environment

Ambient

Scientific applications

Rapid screening of crystallization trials for diffraction.
