  • Additional safety documents for biological and nano- materials, radiation and chemical hazards, lasers, etc.
  • Bringing hazardous materials and equipment to the ALS that require inspection: i.e., electrical equipment, vacuum chambers, large endstations requiring seismic anchoring, and lasers.
  • Use of cryogens
  • Required safety training
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

 

ALS Communications

The ALS Communications Section is dedicated to promoting the scientific and technical achievements of ALS staff and users to the scientific community, government agencies and stakeholders, and to the general public, teachers and students. Communications staff maintain the ALS Web site; write and edit all print and electronic publications for the ALS, including Science Highlights, Science Briefs , brochures, handouts, and the monthly newsletter ALSNews; and create educational and scientific outreach materials. In addition, members of the group organize bi-monthly Science Cafés, create conference and workshop Web sites and publicity, and coordinate ALS participation in Lab-wide events such as the Berkeley Lab Open House and tours for members from the scientific, governmental, academic, and local communities.
