User Access The ALS experiment floor (Building 6) is a Controlled Access Area for radiation protection. All ALS users are required to register with the ALS User Services Office and take safety training (see Complete Safety Training ) before they are issued a Berkeley Lab ID badge and granted access to the facility. Note: Users arriving at the ALS outside registration business hours (Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.) must notify the User Office in advance and have all their online forms completed before their arrival. Upon arriving at Berkeley Lab, they must contact the Control Room at 510-486-4969. Users who arrive after-hours or on weekends without notification and completed forms will not be granted access to the ALS. Visitor Access All visitors to Building 6 must be accompanied by an escort who has completed the required training for accessing the ALS. The escort is directly responsible for the safety of the visitor(s) and must accompany them at all times while inside the ALS (ALS1001 Section 1.3). . Users must arrange for gate passes for visitors; see Gate Access for details. Parking may be reserved for visitors at the ALS. Note: Owing to heightened security measures at Berkeley Lab, all visitors must provide photo identification at the entrance to the Laboratory. Visitors from outside the U.S. should be prepared to show a valid passport. Persons whose work requires unescorted access must register with the User Office .
